Francy Planet has landed.
Meet London Ontario’s newest alt-rock weirdo. With catchy punk-peppered hooks and a lot to say about being alive, Francy Planet has landed.
A consummate lyricist and powerhouse vocalist, Planet fuses 80s flair, 90s quirk, and 2000s polish into a modern alternative pop-rock sound. With lush productions, memorable choruses and a splash of wistful longing, you’ll hear influences like Journey, Fountains of Wayne, Katy Perry, Matthew Good, and Motion City Soundtrack.
Every one of Planet’s whimsical, narrative songs feels like a trip to Blockbuster, with clever, candid lyrics rolling like subtitles in a Spielberg flick: heartfelt, nostalgic, and usually about a little guy against something big.
Born in Northern Ontario to Francophone parents, Planet's given name is François Goudreault. "We moved south when I was a kid,” says Planet, explaining why he’s always performed in English. His buddies coined the nickname Francy after high school.
So what about Planet?
"I needed something that conveys how big this music feels in my head.” Planet has had a stutter since childhood, but he can say whatever he wants when he sings. “When I started writing songs as a teenager,” he recalls, “it was like discovering a portal to a whole new world.”
In 2012, Planet received the "Converting Awareness into Action" award from The Stuttering Foundation and he continues to work as a stuttering advocate today.
For many years, Planet has fronted the award-winning Canadian synth-rock band Hello Kelly. Planet’s band appeared twice at Vans' Warped Tour and shared stages with rock mainstays Switchfoot, Relient K and more. Following three releases for 7Spin Music (Sony BMG), the band released its newest full-length album Sweet Nostalgia in 2022 - a project that garnered Planet "Producer/Engineer of the Year" at the 2022 Forest City London Music Awards..
